B.R.M. Engined Lotus Elan
The Rebuild - The Strip Down

Roll Cage    Chassis    Running Gear    Engine    Bodywork

The beginning - stripping the 'old' car (Spring 2003)

My first task was to strip the car to component level.

This showed up what needed replacing, renovating or just storing for the later rebuild.

The strip consisted of removing the engine, gearbox, running gear, suspension, boot lid, bonnet, electrics (wiring and lights), dash, pedal box, steering column and interior trim.

Removing the interior trim and some of the other parts has lightened the shell making it much easier to move around the garage and a lot easier to offer up the new chassis (for marking the mounting points) and allowing greater access during the rebuild.
