The Rebuild - The Body

Strip Down    Roll Cage    Chassis    Running Gear    Engine

I had refurbished one window frame a few years ago at some expense, I refurbished the second. These pictures show the before and after shots from the window I have worked on.
These may not be used on the final racing rebuild - check the 'For Sale' section to see if/when they become available to buy.

After the roll cage was test fitted (Click here for details) I turned my attentions to the bodywork. The whole boot area has to be isolated from the driver as a safety precaution. This was achieved by using glass fibre panels and bonding with resin and glass fibre. The previously installed aluminium 'firewall' panels had to be removed as they were not really up to modern safety standards.

I am also in the process of building a battery box to house the new small/racing 'red top' battery.

The body is now back from Marino Classics, having been prepared by myself and painted by “Deano”.
Fitting was fairly straight forward with no real problems. The bulkhead and boot area were sealed off from the passenger compartment to comply with the M.S.A. regs. A flat platform was created for the dry sump oil tank, housed in the engine compartment towards the passenger side of the vehicle, and the isolated oil filter was sited near the air intake at the front.
This allows room for the braided oil hoses to be fitted and easy removal of the filter cartridge.

A point worth mentioning when fitting the body onto the chassis, if you have already fitted the engine, remember to remove the carb air trumpets or even better the carbs themselves.
The body shell will snag on them if you don’t, and remember the spacing plates need to be in place at the rear locating points. This seems like I am stating the obvious, but they are two points worth mentioning and will save you much time and hassle.
